Iconography Workshop 2017

This February, Holy Ascension will host a ten day icon painting and gilding class, to be taught by Anton and Ekaterina Daineko, master iconographers  from Minsk, Belarus.

The couple met when they were students at the State Academy of Art in Minsk, where they were studying classical drawing and painting techniques.  They both had discovered the Orthodox Christian faith earlier in their teens and found they had a common interest in learning to paint icons. Married in 1999, they have worked together for twenty years, the first ten years in the icon studio at the newly built St. Elizabeth Convent in Minsk, the last ten years on their own. You can visit their website, http://www.ikona-skiniya.com/ to learn more about them and their work.

The students will complete a gilded icon of St. Nicholas during the ten day class. There is an amazing 7 minute time lapse video of Anton painting this icon here:

Both beginners and advanced students will be able to benefit from the highly individualized instruction offered in the class. The students will include some visiting from other places as well as local students. It will be a wonderful time for Holy Ascension to share all that our church has to offer. The class will be held on the grounds of the church, in the parish hall. The weekly services of the church will provide a unique opportunity for participants to work on their icons in a setting that is rich in the beauty of traditional Orthodox worship.
