The Very Reverend Archpriest FATHER JOHN MikITA
The Very Reverend Archpriest Father John Mikita is the Priest of Holy Ascension Orthodox Church in Mount Pleasant, SC. He has served as the Priest-in-Charge of St. John of Damascus Orthodox Mission in Tyler, TX for the past 11 years. Before that he was rector of St. John the Baptist Orthodox Church in Black Lick, PA. A native of Pittsburgh, PA, he graduated from Washington and Lee University in Lexington, Va (BA –English) in 1994 and Trinity Episcopal School for Ministry in Ambridge, PA (M.Div) in 1997. He has taught religious studies at the University of Texas in Tyler for 5 years, and founded and serves two additional mission stations in the East Texas region. Fr. John’s varied interests include triathlon, literature, theatre, backpacking, skiing, and cooking. He and his wife of 22 years, Matushka Christine, a practicing physical therapist, have two college age children, Alexander (Pitt ’21) and Rachel (Sarah Lawrence College ’21). The Holy Synod elevated Father John Mikita to Archpriest on June 16, 2019. Axios!
ProtoDeacon Mark Barna
Protodeacon Mark Barna was ordained a Deacon on November 26, 2006 by Archbishop Dmitri at Holy Ascension Orthodox Church and has served there ever since. He and his wife Mat. Elizabeth are co-authors of the book A Christian Ending, A Handbook for Burial in the Ancient Christian Tradition, which is a valuable resource and comprehensive plan for natural burial.
