Father John Mikita is the new rector of Holy Ascension Orthodox Church

The Rev. Fr. John Mikita has served as the Priest-in-Charge of St. John of Damascus Orthodox Mission in Tyler, TX for the past 11 years. Before that he was rector of St. John the Baptist Orthodox Church in Black Lick, PA. A native of Pittsburgh, PA, he graduated from Washington and Lee University in Lexington, Va (BA –English) in 1994 and Trinity Episcopal School for Ministry in Ambridge, PA (M.Div) in 1997. He has taught religious studies at the University of Texas in Tyler for 5 years, and founded and serves two additional mission stations in the East Texas region. Fr. John’s varied interests include triathlon, literature, theatre, backpacking, skiing, and cooking. He and his wife of 22 years, Matushka Christine, a practicing physical therapist, have two college age children, Alexander (Pitt ’21) and Rachel (Sarah Lawrence College ’21).
Fr. John's first official day as our new rector will be November 1, 2018. We welcome our new priest and Matushka! The Holy Synod elevated Father John Mikita to Archpriest on June 16, 2019. Axios!
